Entrepreneurs and makers from all over the world are arriving in Xi'an, Shaanxi province for the 2017 Maker Faire Xi'an, which will take place at Xi'an Qujiang International Conference & Exhibition Center on July 15-16.
This will be the first time that the Maker Faire, the self-styled world's biggest DIY party, will be held in the Northwest China city.
Xi'an is the fourth stop for the global event, which has already been held in Beijing, Shenzhen and Chengdu this year, according to Liu Dezhi, chief organizer of the Xi'an Maker Faire.
The event, based around the theme "Live to Make", will advocate a maker culture for engineering-oriented pursuits such as electronics, robotics, 3D printing, as well as more traditional activities such as metalworking and woodworking.
Liu Dezhi has invited 200 global maker teams to display their latest maker products to the public, covering biotechnology, smart homes, aircraft and mechanical equipment. The festival will consist of five areas, including a makers' market, forum, workshop and makers' performance area.

"I desire to see the sparks of the fusion between Maker Faire and the ancient Asian city," said Dale Dougherty, founder of Maker Faire.
Two local maker projects from Shaanxi, Zhang Tianwei's dynamic kites and Li Yicheng's wooden-wheeled vehicle, are expected to become highlights of the event.
Zhang Tianwei, a 79-year-old inheritor of the dynamic kite art form, said, "For young people, interests are not enough, they need practical ability and an attitude of perseverance. I want to keep perfecting and innovating to make sure this skill is passed on."

"This year's Maker Faire will become the biggest one of its kind in China," said Liu.
Liu may be right, as 30 masters in the technology field from the US, Japan, England, Spain and Switzerland will give maker-related speeches and 100,000 visitors is expected to attend the fair.
